If you desire coastal Maine living at its finest, you won’t do better than “Bear Creek,” a beautifully classic Bar Harbor, shingle style home with a contemporary twist, boldly perched on the granite shores of Frenchman Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.  Entering the almost 16-acre property along a long, winding driveway, through a forest of old and new growth trees and abundant mosses and lichens, guests are delivered from the hustle and bustle of the village of Bar Harbor, only minutes away, to more oceanfront privacy and tranquility than one could wish for.  “Bear Creek” has spectacular 180-degree views of Egg Rock Light, Thrumcap Island, Schoodic Peninsula and the ever-present open ocean beyond.  Coupled with its immediate proximity to the 47,000+ acres of Acadia National Park and its mountains, lakes and hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails to explore, and all of the other activities and wonderful restaurants, cafes and boutique shopping that Mount Desert Island and the village of Bar Harbor itself are known for, “Bear Creek” provides all that is desired in an optimally located oceanfront retreat.  You’ll also enjoy year-around sunrises, watching boats and ocean life come and go (a whale if you’re lucky), and the companionship of a picturesque rock coastline, constantly changing ocean and frequently crashing surf.

The custom built, 3-level, 5-bed, 5-bath home incorporates large, comfortable, light-filled living and entertaining spaces with cathedral ceilings, including a very large living room with wood-burning stone fireplace and a resident Moose (you’ll understand when you see him), a generous professional kitchen and dining area with slate counters and an additional wood-burning stone fireplace, a library/office facing the ocean for those requiring a quiet place to work/read, a large first floor bedroom (with king bed) and bathroom, two matching “master” suites on the second floor, each with its own king bed, additional stone fireplace and private bathroom, and a third floor with two more spacious bedrooms (each having two queen beds) and bathrooms, plus a fun, central game room with ping pong table.  A wrap-around, cedar deck and porch (with hot tub and outdoor grill) and a picnic table only steps from the rocky shoreline provide generous outdoor living spaces for entertaining, recovering from your lobster dinner, or just relaxing and looking out to sea as time passes you by.

Other: On the third floor, there is a game room complete with a ping-pong table.

Rental Terms: Pricing is based on a two week minimum stay.  When available single weeks may be considered with an additional fee after January 1st.  Check in is after 5:00 p.m.  Check out is before 9:00 a.m.  There is a $750 cleaning fee for all rentals at this cottage.  Maximum occupancy is 12, up to two additional guests may be considered with prior written permission and payment of an additional $490 per person per week over 12.

Additional Information

Bathrooms: Five bathrooms: three bathrooms with a toilet, sink, and shower in each, and two bathrooms with a toilet, sink, a tub, and a shower in each.
Bedrooms: This cottage sleeps 12 people comfortably with accommodations for up to 14 people. Five bedrooms: three bedrooms with a king size bed in each and two bedrooms with two queen beds in each. There is an additional fee of $400 per person per week for parties over 12 people.
Outdoor Accomodations: The outdoors and view can be enjoyed on the deck or porch, at the picnic tables (one located by the water), or in the hot tub. There is also access to a private rock beach, as well as a vista overlooking the water. Four bicycles are available for tenant use at your own risk.
Kitchen: This kitchen is equipped with dishes, pots & pans, dishwasher, toaster, blender, microwave oven, and coffee maker.
Heating/Cooling: An oil-system provides heating. There is also a fireplace downstairs for chilly evenings. Ceiling fans in the 2nd floor master bedrooms provide cooling.
Laundry: There are two laundry areas: one located on the 2nd floor and the other in the basement.
Linens: Kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom linens are included. Please bring beach towels.
Telephone/Internet: There is a telephone with an international calling block. There is also internet service here.
Television: There is a 55” television in the living room/dining room with satellite reception. There are also televisions in two of the bedrooms for auxiliary use only.
Pets: Pets are not permitted at this property.
Grill: There is a gas grill here.

From the incredible stargazing at night, and beautiful sunrises in the morning, to warming up in front of a fire on a rainy day, every moment we spent here felt like a small bit of paradise.
